Naples Movie Tour – Seafront

Naples Movie Tour – Seafront

The point of departure introduces the quarreling relationship between Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni in Marriage Italian Style, giving the chance to admire the entry façade of Castel Nuovo.

Passing near the monumental Theatre S. Carlo, location for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou played by Bill Murray, the tour continues in the elegant gallery Umberto I, where Harvey Keitel moves in Lina Wertmuller’s Camorra (a Story of Streets, Women and Crime) and where Jack Lemmon and Marcello Mastroianni taste a savory babà with cream in Maccheroni.

Together with the seafront via Caracciolo, piazza del Plebiscito is one of the most represented Neapolitan locations ever. With the background of the Royal Palace and the colonnade of the Basilica di S. Francesco di Paola, Piazza del Plebiscito is visible in movies like The Gold of Naples, The Four Days of Naples, The Last Judgment, and many others titles.

The tour continues in via S. Lucia, visible in a rare nineteenth century movie of the Lumière brothers, walking on the main promenade of via Partenope and via Caracciolo, which was used as a set for lots of movies such as The Last Judgment, Filumena Marturano, Maccheroni, The Skin, Journey to Italy. The breath-taking landscape with the gulf is also reinveted in Neapolitan Mouse, a funny episode of the cartoon series Tom&Jerry. Following the complicated love affair between Ingrid Bergman and George Sanders, the group will experience the Journey to Italy‘s locations, the famous restaurant “La Bersagliera” and the Grand Hotel Excelsior, which is also a set for the Neapolitan episode of the TV series The Sopranos.

The tour proceeds towards Castel dell’Ovo, the legendary fortress on the sea, and the Borgo Marinari. In the interiors of the castle it will be evoked the shooting of Passione, an homage to the Neapolitan song by John Turturro, and in the Borgo the tour will end with the love comedy by Massimo Troisi Pensavo fosse amore invece era un calesse.
